Attention deficit disorder, with or without hyperactivity, is a disorder where a person holds various behavior problems such as struggling to stay focused or inattention, difficulty staying organized, impulsivity, and sometimes hyperactivity such as fidgeting or the inability to sit still for long periods of time. These disorders can lead to experiencing many different difficulties in the workplace, school, at home, with relationships and can increase the chance of developing depression. ADD and ADHD is often treated with stimulants and can cause side effects ranging from irritability, decreased appetite, sleep difficulties, dry mouth, and sometimes anxiety. TMS therapy for ADD & ADHD can be an alternative to traditional medications, inducing little to no side effects.
ADD and ADHD symptoms can be remedied with deep TMS therapy by stimulating the right Prefrontal Cortex (rPFC) that regulates cognitive functions. BrainsWay conducted a study using their newly developed ADHD coil to stimulate the rPFC and found that there was an average improvement of 8.25 points (p=0.0001) in CAARS Scores (Conner’s Adult ADHD Rating Scale) compared to just 1.86 points in the sham group (p=0.33). The new coil has not been released yet, however, ADD/ADHD can also be treated by using the H7 deep coil, with a more focalized magnetic field, to administer deep TMS directly over the rPFC region.
One patient noticed a significant improvement in their ADD symptoms and scored 60% lower in their ASRS (ADHD Self-Report Scale) questionnaires, and reports feeling more organized and accomplished since starting this protocol. This patient commented on their recent care after receiving several TMS sessions:
The ADD & ADHD deep TMS protocol requires only 15 treatments for 3 weeks and is an off-label treatment. TMS for ADD & ADHD is not covered by insurance. Schedule a consultation with Dr.Prashad to learn more.
